United Rentals Manager, Metro Operations Excellence in Boston, Massachusetts

The incumbent will achieve success in the role through leading roll-out and sustainment of Operational Excellence tools in cooperation with Branch Managers, the District Manager, and the Regional Operational Excellence Director.

Responsibilities will include:

  • create a consistent customer experience by improving operational efficiency of the shop, yard and counter across branches.

  • Lead roll-out & sustainment of Ops Excellence toolkit in the Metro with a hands-on/Gemba approach.

  • Work directly with branch teams and centralized resources including Truck Dispatch, Field Service Dispatch and Sales Support Teams.

Core activities will include:

  • Lead branch events to build capacity, including Triage (and/or Box to Box), Staging & Pre-Loading.

  • Coach branch teams to implement action plans created during branch assessments or OpEx improvement events.

  • Lead branch teams to improve the customer experience by removing roadblocks to Order Accuracy and optimizing VOIP call flow to achieve 3 Rings or Less.

  • Complete 5S Certifications, coach teams on action plans


  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum three years of diverse United Rentals field experience required, including a leadership role. Demonstrated success implementing and sustaining Operational Excellence / Lean tools. Strong track record balancing Sales and Sales Support required.

  • Computer skills (Outlook, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint) including knowledge of United Rentals IT systems

  • Driver's License required

  • Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs., occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., and seldom lifting up to 75 lbs.
